Abstract

Labour market requires professional employees to know minimum one foreign language on intermediate level. However, many Hungarian people do not speak any foreign languages at all. That is why higher educational institutions should focus on developing ESP e-learning courses for their students. When we teach ESP, English language is not the aim of the learning process, but just the medium to acquire specific new knowledge. The College of Dunaújváros, Hungary has recognised these needs and started to develop ESP e-learning courses. These materials have double function: first they provide professional material for a particular course; second they help students to learn a foreign language. The e-learning material developed by the College of Dunaújváros meets all the criteria. Materials are specific from linguistic point of view as they provide professional ESP college course, which helps students to learn their professions in English. A munkaerőpiacnak olyan munkaerőkre van szüksége, akik legalább egy idegen nyelvet középfokú szinten ismernek. Sok magyar ember azonban egyetlen idegen nyelvet sem beszél. Ezért a felsőoktatási intézményeknek angol nyelvű e-learninges tananyagokat kell kifejleszteniük hallgatóik számára. Amikor speciális célra kifejleszetett angol nyelvű anyagokat tanítunk, az angol nem a tanítási folyamat célja, hanem közvetítő speciális új tudás elsajátításában. A Dunaújvárosi Főiskola felismerte ezeket az igényeket és elkezdett kifejleszteni angol nyelvű főiskolai kurzusokat. Ezeknek a tananyagoknak kettős funkciója van: egyrészt a kurzusok szakmai anyagát tartalmazzák, másrészt segítséget adnak a hallgatóknak, hogy megtanuljanak egy idegen nyelvet.
